“Jack Kerouac’s girlfriend”

Joyce Johnson

Driving home from Thanksgiving just now, I listened to this fantastic recording of Cynthia Nixon reading Joyce Johnson’s “The Fall of Texas” on WNYC.

Joyce Johnson’s virtual tombstone will read “Jack Kerouac’s girlfriend.” The way she can nail a character in one line of dialogue proves just how unfair that is.
